“We need to get you to Doc Featherstone.”

Jacyn tried to lead Brent away, but the feline shrugged off his hold.

“Call Cassie first,” he ordered, his voice slurring just a bit.

“What for? You’re two seconds from passing out on me and I’m not in the mood to carry your stupid ass all the way through the building,” Jacyn snapped, his face getting the same irritated look Brent had worn at points during the Raven attack.

“I need to make sure Daniel’s okay.”

“I’ll take care of that, now come on.” Jacyn tried once again to lead him away, but Brent still resisted.

“No, it has to be her. She’ll make sure Mitchell doesn’t send him away like he did with Logan.”

There was an almost frantic tone to Brent’s voice.

Daniel wanted to reassure him. “I’m not going anywhere.” He gave Brent’s hand a gentle squeeze and was dismayed at how hot and sweaty the man’s skin felt. Despite having an audience, Brent turned to him and cupped his face, gently fanning the pad of his thumb along Daniel’s cheekbone.

“Promise me.”

“I swear it to you.”

“Ugh, you guys are beginning to make me gag.

Both of you leave before I shoot myself just so I don’t have to listen to all this drama,” Rat bitched.

“Shut up, Rat,” Daniel and Brent ordered in unison as they pulled apart. Daniel instantly missed the heady sensation of the feline’s touch.

“Oh my God. Brent!” A small female with long hair, the same shade of Brent’s, came running into the room.

“Another one!” Rat exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air. “Since when did my office become a hot spot? I’m going to have to get a velvet rope and hire a bouncer at this rate.”

Daniel was tempted to finish the job Kevin had started. Giving Rat a scathing look, he wondered how much room was in the guard shack. Freezing his ass off seemed like a small price to pay.

Anything to shut the jerk up. That would have to wait for later though. Right now, the most important thing was getting Brent the medical attention he so desperately needed. “Take the key out of your front pocket and undo the cuffs, Brent,” Daniel gently ordered.

The feline’s eyes flared with surprise. “You knew all along where I had it?”

“Yeah, like I said, I knew going with you was my only option.” When he saw disappointment flicker across Brent’s pale face, he hastened to add,

“But that’s not the only reason anymore.”

Brent still hesitated. “I should probably wait until Mitchell gets here.”

It hurt a little that Brent still didn’t seem ready to trust him. Letting out an aggravated sigh, Daniel reached into the man’s pocket and retrieved the key himself. Unlocking the cuffs, he slid Brent’s wrist free, leaving his side in place for now. When Brent still looked unsure, it pissed Daniel off enough to grab Cassie.

“What the hell?” she yelled.

He took her wrist and snapped the cuffs in place, shackling himself to her. He tossed the key back at Brent, who caught it neatly in one hand.
